DNA Extraction

 Aim: Finding DNA in a kiwi fruit

Method:

  1. Mush half a kiwi fruit in a zip lock bag with a splash f water and a small teaspoon of salt. 
  2. Srain the solution through a cloth into a beaker.
  3. Add a squirt of dish washing liquid and stir. 
  4. Pour into the test tube.
  5. P;ace the test tube in a beaker filled with WARM water.
  6. Slowly pour 5 ml of mentholated spirits down the side of the test tube.

Discussion: Where do you find DNA? Most DNA is located in the cell nucleus (where it is called nuclear DNA), but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria (where it is called mitochondrial DNA or mt DNA). Mitochondria are structures within cells that convert the energy from food into a form that cells can use

What makes up DNA? Most DNA is make up of simple repeating units called nucleotide
